Samsung Announces Tiny 2.8-Inch Android Galaxy Pocket

From DailyTech: There's an old saying that says "good things come in small packages." That could be the case with Samsung’s new 2.8” Galaxy Pocket.

The cutesy petite Android was just unveiled Samsung Electronic Comp., Ltd. (KS:005930) in London, England. It will launch in the UK "later this year". U.S. launch plans were not mentioned.

The tiny 'droid uses Android 2.3 "Gingerbread". Don't expect an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich anytime soon.

Given its small size, the phone packs a pokey 832 MHz single-core processor, a 320x240 (QVGA) display, and 3 GB of NAND. Basic HSDPA is supported.

The iPhone is still the king of the 3.5-inch niche. But the new 2.8-inch Galaxy Pocket sets a new standard in tiny, while retaining a decent "core" Android experience. And it will likely be far cheaper than the iPhone when it finally launches later this year (it may even be offered free with contract).
