From PC World: US officials appear to have caught a hacker named "IntelBroker," who tried to extort numerous companies, including AMD, Home Depot, and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise.
The Justice Department on Wednesday charged 25-year-old British national Kai West for operating as IntelBroker and conspiring to hack dozens of companies and organizations.
The indictment reveals that West was arrested in France in February. The DoJ has been working to extradite him to the US to face the charges, which include causing over $25 million in damages through his hacking spree.
IntelBroker had been active on BreachForums, a site that trafficked in stolen databases before it went offline. The Justice Department says that "between approximately 2023 to 2025, West offered hacked data for sale approximately 41 times; and offered to distribute hacked data for free (or for Forum-1 credits) approximately 117 times."
