From PC Mag: SpaceX appears to have developed its first Wi-Fi 7 router for Starlink, according to a new regulatory filing.
On Thursday, the company received an equipment authorization for the router from the Federal Communications Commission, which a user on Reddit spotted.
The device is called the “UTR-261,” and it follows the Router Mini, which uses the UTR-251 model name and received FCC approval back in April 2025.
SpaceX’s documentation shows the router has been built for 802.11be EHT20 and EHT40, the technical name for Wi-Fi 7. The router also supports the older Wi-Fi bands too. But based on the filings, UTR-261 doesn't seem to support an extra slice of airwaves in the 6GHz bands, only the standard 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. That's because the FCC's equipment authorization doesn't cover the 5.925 to 7.125GHz frequencies.
Still, users can expect reduced latency and better network capacity from the device, although the Starlink dish itself usually offers max speeds up to 400Mbps plus. Our own tests of other Wi-Fi 7 routers have shown speeds surpassing 2Gbps at close range and around 800Mbps at a 30-foot range. That said, SpaceX is working on upgrading the satellite internet service with gigabit performance.
