From PC Mag: Autonomous taxi rides run by Waymo are coming to Singapore, with testing in the country set to begin early next year. This announcement comes days after Waymo confirmed its launch in Tokyo, Japan, and a month after it detailed plans for Munich, Germany.
Riders will have to wait until 2028 for Waymo to become available in Singapore. Alphabet has yet to say when in the year the service will be available, but it would mark Waymo's first launch in Southeast Asia.
In the early months of next year, a series of Waymo test vehicles will be sent to Singapore to map locations and help accumulate data in what it calls “validation driving.” It begins its research process with manual driving, before moving to autonomous driving, with specialists available behind the wheel in case of emergencies.
Waymo said, “We are confident that we will be able to meet Singapore’s high AV regulatory standards based on the significant real-world experience we have to-date and look forward to seeking the corresponding government approvals for future phases.”
