I tend to live life with the preference of not buying new when old will suffice. This philosophy carries into several areas of my life, such as furniture, second-hand technology, and really anywhere else I can save a couple bucks. One notable area where this belief is visible, though, is my car. I drive a 2001 Acura MDX, a car that had existed for several years on this planet before I came into the picture. This vehicle is excellent, and I will probably just buy another when it inevitably dies, but with any vehicle that has been around for a while, there are a few charming quirks. Potentially the most amusing of these is that the trip computer display will not turn on unless the windshield defroster is running on high. While I find old products are more likely to have peculiarities like this, newer products are also capable of their own eccentricities. Today’s modern era product under examination is the SAMA S50. SAMA is a notable manufacturer of PC cases, PSUs, and cooling solutions from China. Featuring a tempered glass panel and four pre-installed fans at a competitive price, will the S50 have its own distinct charm? Read on to find out!

SAMA sent their S50 case in a large cardboard box from Colordance located in Delta, British Columbia. Delta is a city located in the lower mainland of BC, and is a part of Greater Vancouver. The case completed its trip to our location in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, arriving without issue via UPS Standard. The package arrived sealed with packing tape and had only superficial scuffs on the exterior box.

As you can see in the photo above, the retail box of the SAMA S50 is composed of brown cardboard with white ink and a sticker for product information. The front of the box has the SAMA logo, a sticker with a picture of the S50 white variant, and the company’s web address. The back of the box is very similar, except it forgoes the sticker in favor of a simple “S50 White.” One side of the box lists the web address again, while the other side contains more detailed product information alongside regulatory labels and icons, including shipping information such as “fragile” and “this side up”. The two boxes nest very snugly, minimizing any cardboard shipping waste.

Upon opening the retail box, you will find the SAMA S50 snugly sandwiched between two sturdy Styrofoam braces. The case itself is further sleeved within a plastic bag, with a protective film over the tempered glass front panel. Secreted behind the back panel, you will find a plastic bag containing screws, Velcro ties, GPU support bracket, zip ties, and more to aid in the cable management and installation process. Also included within the chassis is a warranty guide and user guide. I found the user guide to be helpful, with its case specification list, case overview, measurements, installation guide, I/O introduction, fan support, radiator support, and fan hub wiring sections.
Before moving any further, we should take a peek at the specifications of the SAMA S50, as listed on the official SAMA product page:
