From ExtremeTech: Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27891 to the Canary Channel, which has updates for early testers. But one of the biggest and most noticeable changes is the removal of Windows PowerShell 2.0. Microsoft says this version, which has been deprecated for years, is now gone from the latest builds due to security concerns and the absence of modern capabilities.
The company plans to share more information about this removal in upcoming Windows 11 updates. Users and organizations relying on PowerShell 2.0 are urged to transition to PowerShell 5.0 or newer versions:
Windows PowerShell 2.0 is deprecated and in the most current Insider Preview builds flighted to the Canary Channel, is removed. More information will be shared in the coming months on the removal of Windows PowerShell 2.0 in an upcoming update for Windows 11.
PowerShell 2.0 was released in July 2009. It came with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. It was also available for older systems like Windows XP with Service Pack 3.
