From PC Mag: It’s already been leaked and modified for over two dozen PC games, but Nvidia’s controversial DLSS 5 is ready to launch. The company will debut the AI-powered feature and its photorealistic graphics on Thursday, Sept. 3, through the game NBA 2K27.
DLSS 5 will land at 9 p.m., the same time the game arrives on Steam. That said, users might shrug at Nvidia’s announcement, given that DLSS 5 was effectively leaked via the early-access version of NBA 2K27 last week, allowing the PC gaming community to use DLSS 5 through unofficial mods.

In a press briefing, Nvidia addressed the main criticism that DLSS 5 slaps alleged “AI slop” on PC graphics, adding a veneer of hyperrealism that can be distracting or alter a character’s entire look. The key takeaway is that Nvidia has created software controls for the feature—previously shown off in July—making it easy for a game developer to calibrate the DLSS 5 and the photorealistic effects it can add to games, thus preserving the artistic intent.
