Among the hardest hit is the ad-free option, with a standalone Disney+ or Hulu subscription jumping by $2.50 to $21.49 per month, Variety reports. It now makes even less sense for subscribers not to bundle the streaming services for $21.99 a month, a $2 increase.
On ad-supported plans, the Disney+ and Hulu bundle remains $12.99 per month. Standalone ad-supported subscriptions are going up by 50 cents, taking them to $12.49 a month. Disney hopes to attract more bundle subscribers at this price, especially given its plans to discontinue the Hulu app later this year and bring all programming to one place.
If you have ESPN included in your package, the bundle with ads and ESPN Select now costs $21.99 a month, up by $2, while the Unlimited equivalent stays the same at $35.99 a month. Those who want to watch ad-free will get a Select bundle for $3 more per month at $32.99, while the ad-free Unlimited bundle stays at $44.99, making it a more attractive proposition for sports fans.
Disney justifies the price hike by arguing that its "competitors have raised prices by an average of 13% this year [while] we are keeping the price of our most popular bundle unchanged and have increased our standalone ad-supported offerings by just 4%," a spokesperson told TechRadar.
