From PC Mag: If you’re upset that your Fire TV Stick no longer lets you download third-party apps, there’s good news. Amazon has said that the recent disruption is due to a software bug, and a fix will be applied automatically to eligible devices this week.
“There was a bug in a recent Fire TV Settings update that caused the “Install unknown apps” list to appear incomplete or empty on some Fire TV devices,” Amazon told AFTV News. “We have identified the cause and a fix will roll out in an upcoming Fire TV Settings update, installed automatically on affected devices over the coming week.”
The statement was provided last week, so the fix should arrive on all compatible Fire TV sticks by the end of this week.
However, there are a couple of things to consider here. First, the fix may only apply to older Fire TV Sticks running Fire OS. The newest Fire TV 4K Select runs on Linux-based Vega OS, and Amazon blocked sideloading on this device earlier this year for security reasons.
